Life at iBRIC

What will I do at iBRIC?

iBRIC is an independent research project performed under the guidance of a University of Pittsburgh or Carnegie Mellon University faculty member, postdoctoral fellow, and/or graduate student. Interns will engage in a variety of academic and professional development activities including seminars and career and graduate school guidance workshops.

iBRIC interns can expect to follow a schedule similar to this one from Summer 2016:

What support do I get from iBRIC?

iBRIC is a paid internship therefore, you will receive a stipend plus housing. The cost of transportation (bus for Lincoln and airfare for UPR) is booked and provided by us from your institution to Pittsburgh. You will have a Pitt sponsored email account and access to campus-wide network and computing facilities.

This internship experience is meant to provide a glimpse of an actual academic research department work environment. Consequently, amenties such as meal plans or access to certain university facilities will not be an option since you will not be a registered student.

Life in Pittsburgh

Once known mainly as a manufacturing center, Pittsburgh has been revitalized into a technological hub. Thanks to the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon and Duquesne Universities, among many others, Pittsburgh is now renowned for it's research centers and is home to tech companies such as Google, Apple and other top US firms such as Black Box and IBM.

The University of Pittsburgh is located in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh, where several academic institutions converge to create a unique, collegiate atmosphere. The area is rich in culture with the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens residing in the area where Pitt and CMU campuses merge. Summers in the Oakland area come alive with events such as concerts on the green at Schenley Plaza. Walk, bike or picnic in the beautiful, nearby Schenley Park. Or get lost in the stacks at Pitt's Hillman LIbrary, or the historic Carnegie Library. There is something for everyone in Oakland.
